Paul from the RHA visited GB Liners Ltd at their Cheltenham site to deliver driver training and assessments using their simulator. Following an introduction and familiarisation session, the drivers quickly adapted to the system, commenting on how realistic it was.
They covered several exercises, including urban roundabouts, confined-space manoeuvring, obstacle courses, slalom parking, economy driving and urban turning with a tractor and trailer. Despite the simulator’s 26-tonne rigid vehicle being slightly longer than we were used to, all performed well, with useful learning points around positioning, mirror use, steering and throttle control.
Our drivers particularly enjoyed the experience, approached each exercise professionally and politely, and soon relaxed into the session, asking questions and engaging throughout.
